A BIT OF HISTORY

Kings Cross opened in 1852 for the Great Northern Railway: two big arched sheds, one for arrivals and one for departures, built for use rather than show. For much of the late 20th century the area was a byword for seedy, until a refurbishment and a new western concourse in 2012. Today the longest queue in the building is usually for a photo with half a luggage trolley stuck in a wall at “Platform 9¾”.
